Conspiracy Theory 1 - Air defence was told to 'stand down'.
The question everyone is posing is, how come the world's most authoritative air force failed to interrupt any of the four hijacked planes? The North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD), is supposed to incapacitate or agitate any hijacked planes that come into action - in such an event like 9/11. On the 11th of September, 2001; NORAD was apparently oblivious to the attacks for over an hour - even after the first attack had occurred. This confusion resulted in many deaths that could have be stopped from happening. It is believed that the US Vice President - Dick Cheney, ordered the military of NORAD to stand down; as the jet fighters were sent out late and even away from the 911 hijacked planes - which is why they were not present at the scenes until an hour later. The main problem was that there was a major failure in all procedures that are supposed to occur.
Firstly there was Failure to Report - The Federal Aviation Agency (FAA), failed to respond in time to alert the NORAD about the hijacked planes. The amount of time that it took to alert NORAD, was a lot longer than the approved times that were supposed to have taken place. It is a really suspicious problem that occurred because it was blatantly clear that the planes were hijacked and needed attention, as they were going off course and not responding to communications.
Secondly there was Failure to Scramble - Once the NORAD has been informed about the off-track planes by the FAA, it failed to scramble* the interceptors (jet fighters), from bases that are in easy reach of the 911 target attacks. Whereas instead they scrambled interceptors from bases that were located far away from the 911 target attacks. There is high suspicion as to why NORAD did this and there has been no explanation as to why there was a failure to scramble interceptors in time.
Thirdly there was Failure to Intercept - Even though a problem occurred with transmitting the interceptors from bases that were nearby the attacks; the interceptors that were scrambled, still had enough time to reach the targeted attacks/hijacked planes. Conversely the interceptors did not reach the targets in time as they were not travelling at their top speeds' - only a small fraction of what they could be flying at.
Lastly there was Failure to Redeploy - There were interceptors that were in the air at the time of the attacks, and yet they were not redeployed to the hijacked airplanes or the targeted attacks. This was shown when they arrived late in New York City and were not redeployed to Washington D.C., where they could have arrived there in time to save the Pentagon attack from happening. It is believed that Dick Cheney ordered that the airplane (heading towards the Pentagon),was not to be intercepted.
So what does this say to the world? Is it the FAA's fault? Or is it Dick Cheney's fault? Or does the American government have something secret about the 911 attacks that no one knows about?
*order to start-up the engines of the jet fighters, (process which takes approximately five minutes).
